Can we measure blood pressure from radial artery pulse?

Feeling the pressure
Radial artery pulse

Radial artery pulse is caused by the blood pressure wave originating from the heart. There have been attempts to make use of radial artery pulse for different things, in Indian cinema doctors detect if someone is pregnant using the pulse (Joke).  Jokes aside,  one of my endeavors was to develop a method to estimate blood pressure from the radial artery pulse. The idea is given below.

The method abstractly involves using the understanding that the radial artery can be modeled as a cylindrical structure diameter of which is varied with respect to internal pressure. Now the question arises how to use this in detection, what we did was to use a genetic algorithm to optimize the model and a neural network to learn a parameter such that the model estimates the blood pressure effectively.

My work in those lines
